Funding Information
Funding is
awarded to organizations providing access to clinical breast
exams, mammograms, and education to low income, minority,
underserved, underinsured, and uninsured women. It is imperative
that direct access to medical providers be afforded in order to
ensure that targeted women obtain breast cancer screening. All
programs must utilize the three-part approach to breast cancer
early detection including regular screening mammography,
clinical breast examination (CBE), and breast self-examination
(BSE). Ensuring that medically underserved women receive annual
screening and proper follow-up care is the primary objective of
the Fund.
This financial
support will be provided to community and healthcare
provider-based programs that link medically underserved women
over 40 to breast cancer education and clinical screening
services (mammography and clinical breast exams).
The
Fund seeks to support programs that:
-
Recruit women for both first time screening and
annual screening.
-
Develop partnerships between community-based outreach
providers and local medical providers.
-
Work with healthcare providers to ensure proper
clinical follow-up of abnormal screening results.
- Educate older women about Medicare coverage of annual
screening mammograms and assist them in obtaining the service from
providers who accept Medicare.
The Avon Foundation Breast Care Fund
