| Our door-to-door outreach seeks
medically underserved women, but sometimes finds women who do receive
annual screening. Just five months overdue for her annual mammogram, our
former clinic manager was outreached at her home. A busy nursing student
and mother, she scheduled a routine mammogram and was diagnosed with
breast cancer. Looking towards her future and now undergoing treatment,
our client, former employee, and friend has credited our outreach
program for her early diagnosis. Kachemak Bay FP

http://www.CancerInfoNet.org
A new resource from
the Cancer Information Service (CIS) of New York State, the site
was created in response to a Request For Applications (RFA) from
the National Cancer Institute to address the digital divide in
underserved audiences, specifically related to access to cancer
information. The site is the cornerstone of a year-long series
of cancer education workshops for the public held throughout Harlem.
It can be used to train employees unfamiliar with cancer, help
newly diagnosed patients negotiate credible cancer information
on the Internet; or assist health educators in planning cancer
education workshops. Provides varied topics, links and provides
a section on judging a credible Web site. Information is easy-to-read
and available in Spanish.
